With over 32,000 square feet, Healthplex Fitness Center is your one-stop fitness and wellness destination. From its original conception we have been successful in assembling a group of independent medical, health, fitness, recreation and beauty services. Our trainers and staff members pride themselves on delivering top-end standards & education to all of the members and client. Each of our trainers / coaches have national accredited training certifications and futher their knowledge of fitness and athletics everyday.

Teresa Burke

Fitness Director / Personal Trainer

Teresa Burke is co-owner and Fitness Director at HealthPlex. She has trained all her life and achieved first levels in the international arena in synchronized swimming and personal training. Currently, Teresa specializes in joint rehabilitation through Functional Movement, sports conditioning and performance, and accelerated weight loss programs.

Michael Kurkowski

Sales Manager

Michael Kurkowski, Manager, is also a fitness coach at HealthPlex. Mike originally joined HealthPlex as a member. At that time, he was working with trainers and fitness professionals in baseball in New York, Boston, and Florida. At HealthPlex, Mike learned about FMS and pursued his interest in it to earn his certifications. He joined the HealthPlex team in 2008. In April 2010, Michael participated in the Russian Kettlebell Challenge in St. Paul, Minnesota and achieved the title of RKC Instructor. He was the first person with that certification in the Capital Region. Currently, Michael specializes in injury prevention, kettlebells, and performance training.

Tim Ryan

Personal Trainer

Tim is originally from Troy, New York and currently resides in Latham. Tim attended Troy High School and was a two sport athlete participating in Football, while doing shot-put and discus in the offseason. While starring on the offensive line, Tim helped his team to the State Championship game- taking home the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman award. Tim joined the HealthPlex family in February 2016, and is beginning to play a vital role with a background in weight loss and nutrition. Tim began his fitness journey three years ago at 300lbs. As he lost over 110lbs, he transformed himself into a very knowledgeable and inspiring trainer. He enjoys helping his clients take control of their lives, form better habits, and become the strongest version of themselves.

Matt Woods

Personal Trainer / Strength Coach

Prior to joining HealthPlex, Matt trained numerous college athletes to go on to earn All-American status. Additionally, some of his clients have completed various kinds of endurance events from the New York City Marathon to the Leadville 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race. Matt is a Functional Movement Coach and Strength and Conditioning coach for Hockey, Lacrosse, Baseball, Football, and Basketball. Matt has the ability to motivate and inspire clients at all different levels of physical fitness or ability, encouraging them to make and sustain life-changing habits. When he is not busy training, Matt can usually be found on a mountain, rock climbing, ice climbing or skiing.

Barbara Nieves

Personal Trainer

Barbara Nieves is a Fitness Coach at HealthPlex. She grew up in Queens, NY. After high school, she moved to Long Island. When she joined her first gym at 17, Barbara began to notice how working out and proper nutrition affected her own muscle development. She got her first certification in personal training at age 18. Barbara believes that “women can maintain a healthy body after having children.” After giving birth to her own two daughters, she competed in three body building competitions and took first place in each. She joined the HealthPlex team in 2006. Currently, she specializes in conditioning, strength, functional training, and nutrition. Barbara’s experience allows her to work with all age groups and fitness levels.

Ralph Merante

Personal Trainer

Ralph Merante is a Fitness Coach at HealthPlex. His passion for enjoying an active lifestyle of biking, kayaking, skiing, and hiking, combined with years of experience teaching people of all ages, brought Ralph to his career as a YMCA-Wellness director, with a focus on exercise, nutrition, and motivation. Ralph joined the HealthPlex team in April 2013. Currently, he specializes in TRX training, Golf Fitness, Ortho-Rehabilitation and Senior Mobility programs. Ralph specialty enjoys working with couples, friends and families.

Ryan Williams

Personal Trainer / Strength Coach

Ryan has lived all over the country where he played hockey and swam as a Varsity captain. HealthPlex has brought Ryan back to his passion for health and wellness. He enjoys listening and helping clients find and reach their wellness goals. Ryan specializes in strength training, weight loss, toning and swim stroke techniques. He also works with a majority of the youth clients at HealthPlex.

Adrienne Parker

Personal Trainer

Adrienne was raised in Malta, NY and attended Ballston Spa High School, where she ran on the Varsity Track and Field team since 8th grade. This pushed her to make fitness an important priority in her life. After graduating high school, she began running track for SUNY Oneonta as a 400m hurdler. In addition to this, she participated in numerous team sports outside of school. She comes from a dance background of ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop; majoring in musical theatre at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles. Helping people become, look, and feel their best is what has contributed profoundly to her pursuing this career. Since then, Adrienne has acquired numerous certifications and really found her niche with circuit training.

Jonathan Abbatiello

Personal Trainer

Jon is a fitness instructor at HealthPlex Fitness. He joined HealthPlex in early 2016. He grew up and currently resides in Fort Ann, NY. Having grown up in the Adirondacks, Jon enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, hunting and traveling. He has had a passion for fitness since he joined his first gym at the age of 15. Jon strongly believes in health benefits associated with leading an active lifestyle. He has decided to dedicate his life to helping others see those same benefits. Jon is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and also through Functional Movement Systems. He is able to work with all ages and fitness levels. He looks forward to inspiring, motivating and being able to progress clients within their unique goals.

Zach Nowhitney

Personal Trainer / Strength Coach

Zach Nowhitney is a fitness trainer at HealthPlex Fitness and the HealthPlex Strength and Conditioning Facility. He was born in Ballston spa, moved to Plattsburg at a young age, and then returned at age 11 where he currently resides. He began to grow a passion and love for fitness after going through a large weight gain at the age of 12. As time went on, he realized he wanted to better himself. He then developed his passion for fitness from there. At the age of 16, he joined the Ballston Spa Football team and soon later joined his first gym. At the age of 20, he dedicated his time greatly towards his goal and passion to fitness. Zach likes setting goals, pushing, and doing whatever it takes to progress his clients.

Erika Bacon

Personal Trainer

My name is Erika. Throughout my life, I have always been an active individual. I practiced various hobbies such as skating, dancing, running, and volleyball. I was born and raised in Baja California, Mexico. Coming to the US as an adult, while being a caretaker, I discovered the big world of fitness and fell in love with the idea of becoming a personal trainer. Shortly after moving to the US, I enrolled in the fitness specialist program at San Diego’s City College. Since then, my passion has been educating myself to help people and myself to live a better and healthier life. As a mom, I have worked through my own struggles. I know I need to stay strong now and for future challenges. My fitness journey has led me to three beliefs; I believe everyone should work hard to be ready for whatever challenges life throws at you. I believe through the use of motivation, dedication, and the proper exercise routine, every individual has the ability to discover their inner body. I believe working out leads to an overall sense of individual fulfillment and a healthier lifestyle.
